摘要

The ticking bomb that is the proposal to declare plastic products "toxic" under Canadian environmental laws gets closer to detonating every day, and the damage the explosion would do to our industry was made clear during an April 12 hearing of the federal government's Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development. John Galt, Husky Injection Molding Systems president and CEO, Bob Mas-terson, president and CEO of the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC), and Elena Mantagaris, CIAC's vice president of plastics all participated in the virtual hearing and pushed back strongly against the proposal - which would declare plastic a toxin regulated under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA) by 2022, and also ban single-use disposable products including retail bags, straws, and cutlery - saying it would unfairly malign our industry's reputation, deter investment, and cost thousands of jobs.
