A COLOURFUL SITUATION IN FRANCE WITH REGARD TO1 JOHNE'S DISEASE CONTROU

Johne's disease is not a notifiable disease in France. Nevertheless, farmers are taking it deeply into account because of the economic losses involved. Several actions have been implemented at their initiative and are taken by each farmer on a voluntary basis.The farmers have built a specific organization, named Groupement de Défense Sanitaire (GDS), whose origin dates back to the 1950s and which has been working since then at a national, regional and local level.
