A vision for the future of nursing

This year, I took over the role of Chief Executive of the Florence Nightingale Foundation. The Foundation's primary role is to support the delivery of excellent care for patients. It achieves this through funding and supporting nurses, midwives and other health professionals to undertake scholarships. These fall into three broad types: research, travel and leadership. Leadership scholarships are particularly designed to equip practitioners to take on more senior operational and strategic roles in our health services. They are currently targeted at three levels: emerging leaders, aspiring nurse directors and top leaders. All the leadership scholarships contain a significant bespoke element.This enables scholars, with the support of their mentors, to design a unique programme of development to meet their individual needs. Emerging leaders and aspiring nurse director scholarships also include a core programme of tried and tested leadership development interventions.
