Cyprus gets lift from Egyptian gas giant

Nicosia-Eni’s discovery of the Zohr gas field offshore Egypt has made all the difference for Cyprus, where 2015 provided few developments in the island’s nascent hydrocarbon industry, with the exception of advances in regional energy diplomacy. The 30 Tcf discovery by Eni in Egypt’s Shorouk Block, just 6 km from the Cypriot maritime border, has dispelled a growing mood of cynicism among locals and led to a renewal of exploration licenses for both Eni and France’s Total.
