Houston-US oil-directed rigs rose by 13 to 523 on Friday, according to Baker Hughes, continuing a streak of unusually large weekly increases as operators prepare to hit the ground running in the new year and bulk up first-quarter production. The Permian Basin of West Texas and southeast New Mexico had the largest jump of four oil rigs to 262 - comprising just over half the US oil rig total, Baker Hughes said in its latest weekly release of rig counts. The basin is the most active in the US.
