French committee calls for review of shale gas ban

London—France’s national industry committee called on Friday for a new industry-focused energy policy, which would curb energy price increases, encourage new technologies and reconsider a ban on shale exploration. The government-appointed committee said France’s energy transition—which aims to reduce the share of nuclear power and promote renewable energy—should include an “objective” examination of shale oil and shale gas exploration, which has been banned in France since 2011.
