London—A private fund owned by Qatar’s former prime minister has agreed to buy London-listed Heritage Oil, part-owner of Shell’s former OML 30 block onshore Nigeria, for a GBP924 million ($1.55 billion), the companies said Wednesday. The acquisition is being made by a subsidiary of Al Mirqab, a company indirectly owned by former Qatar PM Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabor Al Thani and his family in a private capacity. Al Thani, who also headed Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund until last year, is chairman of investment bank QInvest and also of Qatar Islamic Bank, and a Credit Suisse board member.
