US rig count rises by 17

Houston—The US rig count was 1,809 for the week ended March 14, up by 17 from the prior week, according to Baker Hughes. The latest count includes 1,755 land and 54 offshore, with 344 assigned to gas, 1,461 to oil and 4 to miscellaneous drilling. The rigs were drilling 393 vertical, 204 directional and 1,212 horizontal wells.
