New York—New York—NYMEX crude futures fell 96 cents to settle at $94.21/barrel May 14, as short covering on the Brent-WTI spread helped break NYMEX crude out of a tight 20-cent/b range. ICE June Brent settled 22 cents lower at $102.60/b, widening the spread between the two front-month contracts to $8.39/b/b. The spread had narrowed to $7.22/b in midmorning US trading, its tightest since January 2011.
