Appalachian shale shows liquids production promise

New York—Appalachian shale plays in the eastern US such the Marcellus and Utica have not shown stunning results in terms of liquids production—yet—but as regional infrastructure grows, the area is beginning to show promise. The Appalachian region has lagged behind more successful liquids plays such as the Bakken. It has been dogged by a high percentage of natural gas and natural gas liquids in the mix, which command a lower price than crude oil, and a lack of infrastructure to move the gas.
