Shell eyes new deepwater play offshore Benin

Cape Town-Benin, a tiny state to the east of oil giant Nigeria, has long been considered a small company play but that may be about to change. Shell has started drilling at block 4, in a "new and untested area," the Anglo-Dutch com- pany's vice president exploration sub-Saharan Africa, Alistair Milne, told delegates at Africa Oil Week in Cape Town. "As we speak we are drilling our first well in Benin in block 4 with our partners Petro- bras and Portugal's CBH," Milne said.
