Chevron focuses on global LNG projects

Houston—Slower-than-anticipated development of natural gas from shale outside the US, coupled with political and other factors, point up a critical need for as much as 150 million metric tons/year of LNG capacity by 2025, a top Chevron gas executive said Friday. Explaining why Chevron is investing heavily in LNG projects, Joe Geagea, Corporate Vice President and President of Chevron’s Gas and Midstream segment, said during a quarterly earnings conference call that LNG demand worldwide has already doubled to about 225 million metric tons/year since 2000 and is predicted to double again by 2025 to about 450 million mt/yr.
