US remains prime destination for oil imports

Houston—As current US crude oil stock levels rise, attractive import economics continue to make the US the prime destination for cargoes arriving during the first quarter of 2016, a Platts analysis showed Thursday. With the prompt ICE Brent-NYMEX WTI spread at its narrowest since its inversion in January and the highest incentive to store crude oil in at least five years, US crude volumes should continue to build in 2016, far exceeding the already-impressive 19% boost in crude stock seen in 2015.
