Tokyo—Some Asian importers of Iranian oil may not hike their imports if sanctions are lifted later this year because of uncertainties over shipping insurance provided by the International Group of P&I Clubs. Roughly 10% of the P&I cover of up to $8.1 billion per VLCC could be short for transporting Iranian oil based on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, or JCPOA, that covers the lifting of sanctions against Iran, sources familiar with the matter said this week.
