Bangladesh renews effort to expand refining capacity

Dhaka-State-owned Bangladesh Petroleum Corp. has launched another attempt to expand the country’s refining capacity in an attempt to cut reliance on imports. BPC’s wholly owned subsidiary Eastern Refinery Ltd., operator of the sole 1.5 million mt/year (33,000 b/d) Chittagong refinery, has sought expressions of interest to appoint a project management consultant for a new 3 million mt/year plant that will be constructed at the same premises as the existing refinery, a BPC official said Monday.
