Greece final sticking point for EU's Iran ban

Brussels-European Union foreign ministers were still expected to adopt an embargo on the import of Iranian oil on January 23, even as Greece's financial problems emerged January 20 as the last major sticking point in the negotiations to formalize a ban already agreed in principle. "It was not Greece that has been asking for oil sanctions [on Iran], it's the other mem- ber states...and they are therefore putting an additional burden on the whole financial prob- lem of Greece," an EU presidency source told reporters in Brussels.
