US to require US Gulf of Mexico capping stacks test

Washington—US offshore regulators said May 24 they will require a real-time demonstration this summer of a capping stack device owned by a Gulf of Mexico consortium and designed to contain a deepwater blowout. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said the Marine Well Containment Corporation will be required to transport its device offshore and deploy it on the seabed as part of a broader test of deepwater oil spill response capabilities.
