Dubai-EU sanctions against Iranian oil exports to the European market agreed January 23 will displace an estimated 500,000-600,000 b/d of crude oil once the ban comes into effect while shrinking the OPEC state's export options. Iran holds the world's fourth-largest proven oil reserves and the second-largest conventional gas reserves after Russia, but its ranking as OPEC's second-biggest pro- ducer after Saudi Arabia is under threat from a series of international sanctions targeting its oil and gas sectors.
