EU adds Iranian oil ministry, NIOC to sanctions list

London—The European Union brought into law October 16 a wide range of new energy sanctions against Iran, adding to its banned list the Iranian oil ministry, the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) and National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) and some 30 other oil and gas companies. The latest measures, adopted a day earlier by EU foreign ministers, intensify the economic pressure on Iran over its controversial nuclear program by extending the thrust of oil sanctions in force since July across the country’s energy sector.
