Brazil to Hold Long-Awaited Oil Licensing Round

After a five-year delay, Brazil is set to hold the first of three highly anticipated licensing rounds this year, which could play an important role in its emergence as one of the world's leading oil producers. The country's 11th licensing round -- taking place May 14-15 in Rio de Janeiro -- will auction off 289 offshore and onshore blocks. Those blocks span 156,000 square kilometers (97,000 square miles) across 11 sedimentary basins (OD Jan.25'13).
