Canada Seeks to Cool Down Oil Sands Dispute With EU

Canada appears to have backed down from a threat to take its dispute with the European Union (EU) over Canadian oil sands crude to the World Trade Organization (WTO). Under its so-called "fuel quality directive," the EU plans to tax oil sands crude more heavily than conventional crude on grounds that it makes a greater contribution to global warming on a per-barrel basis.
