US Agency Won't Resist Swifter LNG Export Approvals

The US Department of Energy (DOE) has offered tacit support for a bill winding its way through Congress that seeks to speed up the approval of LNG export applications. "If this is the legislation that passes -- in its current form -- we can comply with that," Christopher Smith, the department's assistant secretary for fossil energy told the Senate Energy Committee on Thursday. As a matter of principle, however, Smith said the agency does not believe that additional legislation is necessary.
