Utica Surpasses Marcellus in Oil Production, Gas Output Soars

Although the emerging Utica shale formation is best known for its fast-rising gas production, oil output from the play is also ramping up quickly. Data from the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) show oil production from the emerging shale play in the US Northeast more than doubled to 62,500 barrels of oil per day in April, compared with 29,200 b/d a year earlier.
