Buffer Zone Proposed for Sage Grouse

The US Geological Survey issued a report Friday recommending a "potential conservation buffer" of 3.1 miles for energy development in key producing states in order to protect a vulnerable species of bird. The USGS report was prepared at the request of the Bureau of Land Management in advance of a court-mandated conservation plan for the greater sage grouse which must be completed next year.
