Positive Economic Data Pushes Oil Prices Up Despite US Inventory Build

Oil futures rose on Thursday, with traders saying that bullish economic data outweighed a fairly big build in US crude inventories. Data from the US Labor Department showed that new weekly unemployment claims in the US fell by 5,000 to a seasonally adjusted five-year low of 330,000 for the week ended Jan. 18. The less volatile four-week moving average also fell to a five-year low of 351,750.
