Eni Awaits Decision on Congo Frontiers

Italy's Eni is waiting on presidential ap- proval for seven exploration licenses it has agreed in Congo (Kinshasa), including three vast blocks in the Centrale Basin to the east of the capital, Block 4 on the border with Uganda and on- and offshore acreage in Lake Tanganyika (IOD May18'11). The deals are the fruit of a concerted push by Eni in Congo after it was thwarted in neighboring Uganda by Tullow Oil's pre- emption of its $1.5 billion bid for Heritage Oil's upstream interests around Lake Albert.
