Alaska Well Tests Hydrates

An experimental well on Alaska's North Slope is testing technologies that could unlock the secret of mining methane hydrates safely. The Ignik Sikumi gas hydrate field trial well is the result of a partnership between ConocoPhillips and the Office of Fossil Energy's National Energy Technology Laboratory. The well, near Prudhoe Bay, was spudded in March and a oneor two-month drilling program of carbon dioxide injection could begin as early as this winter.
