UK Lawmakers Back Carbon Capture Role for North Sea

UK lawmakers said in a report Monday that carbon capture and storage (CCS) has an 'absolutely central role' to play in decarbonizing the UK economy to meet climate goals, and that depleted oil and gas fields in the North Sea offer the cheapest and safest carbon dioxide storage solution at the scale required. The cross-party Parliamentary Advisory Group on CCS' report, titled Lowest Cost Decarbonisation for the UK: the Critical Role of CCS,was led by Ron Oxburgh, a former non-executive chairman of Royal Dutch Shell.
