Exxon Mobil has announced plans to expand the capacity at its Altona refinery in Australia from 80,000 b/d to 90,000 b/d to meet the region's growing demand for refined products. The US supermajor said Thursday it intends to upgrade an existing crude unit, adding a predistillation step in the refinery's process that will boost diesel and jet fuel production. In addition, it said the project would enhance Altona's energy efficiency and environmental performance through the recovery of an extra three megawatts of waste heat.
