摘要

Ukrainian lawmakers on Thursday adopted legislation on sanctions and reforming natural gas infrastructure that has the potential to completely change the country's energy transit industry. Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk praised passage of the laws, saying that legislators "made a great step toward energy independence and defending the country's interests" (IOD Aug.13'14). He said the government has prepared a list of 172 citizens of Russia and other states and 65 "mainly Russian" companies it says are responsible for "financing terrorism and supported the annexation of Crimea" that could be hit with sanctions. The power to levy specific sanctions will lie with the national security council, and in some cases will have to be approved by parliament.
