Russia, Turkey to Deepen Energy Cooperation, Blue Stream in Focus

Ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Turkey on Dec. 1, Moscow and Ankara are deepening energy ties, including the longawaited increase in gas supplies via the Blue Stream pipeline, with Ankara possibly receiving more gas through the pipeline in 2016. Energy cooperation was one of the key issues discussed by the Russian-Turkish intergovernmental commission in Moscow on Wednesday. According to a draft protocol to be signed on Dec. 1 in Ankara, the two countries with a trade turnover of around $33 billion as of last year have agreed to develop further cooperation in gas supplies and upstream oil projects in Russia, Turkey and third countries, alongside nuclear and electric power projects.
