Expanded porphyrins can be considered as suitable and adjustable macro-cyclic frameworks for the construction of binuclear or polynuclear coordination compounds.It can be expected that a multifunctional expanded porphyrin structure will enforce structurally unique coordination motifs and provide models for bimetallic metalloenzymes.Significantly,two adjacent,possibly cooperating,metal ions are in a position to prefer some unknown reaction routes that could be exploited in catalytic processes.
