An Arch Coal mine in West Virginia could soon receive a surface mine permit from the US Army Corps of Engineers if the producer makes modifications recommended by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Arch subsidiary Coal-Mac's proposed permit for its Pine Creek surface mine is one of 79 applications from the Appalachian region targeted for enhanced coordination procedures (ECP) in June 2009 by EPA and other federal agencies.
