Trading volume in the over-the-counter coal markets soared 50pc in tonnage and 53pc in transactional terms during 2007, finishing up the year with steady December volumes and annual tonnage of 205 million tons traded. December volumes were mixed, with 20pc more tonnage traded at 8.69 million tons, but transactional volumes were off 9.7pc at 158 reported deals. The month was still enough to push the year's total to 205.17 million tons dealt in 3,473 deals, far and away the busiest year ever in OTC coal trading.
