The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has unveiled a plan to address aging transportation infrastructure, lagging investment and projected growth in freight volumes.The National Freight Strategic Plan, which has been released in draft form for public comment, cites six major obstacles challenging the U.S. freight system. Included among them are anticipated surges in freight movements across all modes, decades of underinvestment in the system and difficulty in planning and implementing freight projects.
