Ford Motor Co. has been granted a patent on a design for a self-driving passenger vehicle, making it the latest automaker to jump on board autonomous-driving technology. The patent, titled “Autonomous vehicle with reconfigurable seats”, was granted by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office this month. The patent essentially covers a system allowing passengers to use the inner space of the vehicle as a living room—complete with a pull-out ottoman—as the car manages the driving using a series of sensors installed in the vehicle.
