North America's sapsuckers are well-known for their unusual feeding habits. Using their bills, they, chisel evenly spaced rows or notes ill a variety of trees. Once the holes start to ooze sap, the woodpeckers visit the wells to feed on the sap and the insects it attracts - hence the name sapsucker.
