Obesity, the consequence of an imbalance of energy intake and expenditure, has been regarded as an independent risk factor for various metabolic diseases, such as dyslipidemia, hepatic steatosis, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and cancers (4, 17). With changes in people's diet and lifestyle, the prevalence of obesity is expanding at a horrific rate worldwide and is predicted to increase continuously in the coming decades (19). This situation has resulted in multiple studies focused on the treatment of obesity or the accompanying metabolic disorders.
