Improved food security and nutrition is still a major goal when upgrading the life of poor sectors. Solutions must be found that discourage assistance approaches and focus instead on promoting the active role of these sectors, as a way to empower themto overcome the many barriers linked to poverty. The community of Tome is located on the central southern coast of Chile in a beautiful landscape backed up by high mountains. Small-scale farmers, urban dwellers and local fisher-folk live together in this micro region.
