EU updates glyphosate renewal proposal

The European Commission has updated its proposal for a tenyear renewal of the herbicide, glyphosate, to further clarify that the active ingredient is not an endocrine disruptor (ED). The previous proposal had referred briefly to this conclusion, but the text has been expanded following the European Food Safety Authority's (EFSA) publication of its peer review on glyphosate's ED status. The revised text is on the agenda of the October meeting of the EU Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed, but only as a discussion point, rather than a possible vote. It cites the EFSA's conclusion that the weight of evidence indicates that glyphosate does not have ED properties through oestrogen, androgen, thyroid or steroidogenesis mode of action.
