Env MEPs seek to strengthen public access to agchem data

Proposals to increase public access to EU registration data on agrochemicals and genetically modified organisms should not be hindered by commercial confidentiality issues, says the European Parliament's Environment Committee. Based on a draft report prepared earlier this year, the Committee has suggested numerous changes to the European Commission's proposals. These include the incorporation of several amendments put forward by the Parliament's Legal Affairs Committee, which argued that the ability of the Commission's proposals to release useful information would be limited by provisions covering confidential data.
