Indian court exempts cement producers from petcoke ban

Indian cement companies breathed easier Wednesday afterthe Supreme Court of India gave permission for the use of petcoke incement plants in the three northern states of Rajasthan, Haryana andUttar Pradesh.Cement companies have been using petcoke both as feedstock forkilns and for generating captive power. The order, which was effectiveNovember 1, had hurt the cement companies hard as they are the mainconsumers of petcoke.
