ERCOT sees gain in gas-fired generation, decline in coal capacity

An increase in the market share of natural gas-firedgeneration in Texas from January to February occurred alongside adecline in coal-fired generation due to capacity retirements, the EnergyInformation Administration said in its latest Natural Gas Weekly Updatereleased March 15.Citing the recent Demand and Energy Report from theElectric Reliability Council of Texas, the EIA reported a growthof 3.2% in the share of generation from gas in Texas to almost42% from January to February, followed by an increase ofroughly 1.5% in wind generation and an uptick of 1.1% innuclear power.
