Houston—Seven coal-laden ships departed from Baltimore in the week ended Aug. 30, down from eight from a week earlier, according to cFlow, Platts’ trade flow software. However, the total dead-weight tonnage of the departures was 598,779 dwt, up from 496,922 dwt in the prior week, according to the data. Four coal carriers are headed to North and South American destinations, with one ship expected to arrive in Punta Catalina, Dominican Republic, on Aug. 31, one to Matane, Canada, on Sept. 3 and one to Santos, Brazil, on Sept. 13. An additional ship arrived in Norfolk, Virginia, on Aug. 30, to load additional coal.
