Consol raises doubts about Murray Energy’s ability to confirm bankruptcy plan

Consol Energy said it questions whether coal mining competitor Murray Energy can confirm a plan to emerge from a Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization. Murray Energy warned in late March that it was running out of liquidity faster than expected. The company reiterated those concerns in an April 11 filing with the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Ohio in which it defended a request to cut itself free from retiree medical obligations costing the company $256,000 per day.
