India’s thermal coal imports totaled 15 million mt in January 2020, down 8% on the month but 11% higher from a year earlier, data from coal trading house Iman Resources showed Tuesday. Indonesia continued to be the largest thermal coal exporter into India, comprising 60.8% of total January imports at 9.14 million mt. Amid an uptick in South African thermal coal prices, imports from South Africa totaled 3.72 million mt in January, down 16% on the month as India-based buyers sourced for alternative options.
