Warrior Met expects worst of COVID impact on steel demand is behind it

Charlottesville, Virginia—Warrior Met Coal said the company is entering the third quarter with expectations that the worst of the COVID-19 impact on steel producers’ demand for metallurgical coal is now likely behind them. Warrior CEO Walt Scheller said on an Aug. 5 earnings call that while the company is still concerned about pricing levels, most major steel demand factors, including automobile production and construction, are showing signs of improvement. Warrior reported a $9.2 million net loss in the quarter.
