Arch Coal’s annual sales volumes and revenues declined in 2019 year on year, driven by weak coking and thermal coal demand in domestic and seaborne markets, the company said in its annual earnings filing. The 2019 results were “impacted by softening of coking coal markets in the back half of the year, and domestic and international thermal coal markets that faced continued pressure,” the filing released late Tuesday said. “Declining margins have led to production curtailments by steel producers, particularly in Europe, that have negatively impacted spot demand for coking coal as well as prompt and forward coking coal prices,” Arch said.
