US Western bituminous coal production totaled over 16.6 million st the second quarter of 2019, up slightly 0.3% from the previous quarter and up 11.1% from the year-ago quarter, Mine Safety and Health Administration data showed in July. Peabody Energy’s Arizona-based Kayenta mine was the top producer in Q2, with total output of about 1.8 million st, up 17.1% from Q1 and up 4.1% from the year-ago quarter. Signal Peak’s Bull Mountains mine in Montana followed, with about 1.7 million mt in production, up 43.1% from the prior quarter. From the year-ago quarter production was down 15.4% for the mine.
