Weekly US coal train loadings averaged 102 trains/day in the week ended August 30, up 4.2 trains/day from the previous week, Surface Transportation Board data showed Thursday. Compared with the year-ago week, loadings fell 3.4 trains/day, the smallest drop percentage-wise year over year in seven weeks. The five-year average for week 35 was 111.2 trains/day. Loadings from the Powder River Basin increased the most week over week, rising 6.4 trains/day to 59.9 trains/day in the most recent week.
